2022 marks a significant historical landmark for our nation as Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II celebrates her Platinum Jubilee marking 70 years of service, with the Platinum Jubilee Central Weekend taking place from 2nd to 5th June. Windsor Castle in Berkshire, is known to be the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world! It hosts an extraordinary collection of fine works of art in the State Apartments including, Rembrandt, Rubens and Canaletto to name but a few as well as the famous dolls house, which once belonged to Queen Mary. In celebration this year, from 7 July, Windsor Castle will host a special display commemorating Her Majesty’s Coronation at Westminster Abbey on 2 June 1953. On display will be the Coronation Dress and Robe of Estate worn by The Queen on that day.
Discover the magnificent Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, the Queen’s official home in Scotland and best known in history as the home of Mary Queen of Scots. In celebration of The Queen’s Jubilee in 2022, from 3rd July, the Palace of Holyroodhouse will host a display looking back at Her Majesty’s previous Jubilees. The display will feature outfits worn by Her Majesty on occasions to celebrate the Silver, Golden and Diamond Jubilees.
Of course, Buckingham Palace, in all its splendour, the official London residence of our Monarchs since 1837, needs no introduction! From 22 July there will be a special display in The State Rooms featuring the first official portraits of the young Queen and items of personal jewellery.
