October is a lovely month to get away. The countryside is beginning to turn golden, the air feels crisp and fresh, and after a day exploring, there’s something particularly appealing about settling down somewhere warm and welcoming. It’s the time of year for country walks, historic houses, cosy pubs – and B&Bs with a woodburner or open fire.
This month we’re heading to the Lincolnshire Wolds and our B&B of the Month, Holly Cottage B&B in Hagworthingham. A characterful mixture of a period cottage and stylish modern extension, Holly Cottage makes a comfortable base for exploring the Wolds and the surrounding countryside. There are walks and cycling routes nearby, while historic houses, market towns and the Lincolnshire coast are all within easy reach.
Discover the Wolds: The Wolds are one of those parts of England that can still feel wonderfully undiscovered – peaceful countryside, big skies, ancient trackways, pretty villages and fascinating history.
Holly Cottage’s host, Clare, knows the area particularly well, and in her latest blog she shares some of the things she loves about this beautiful corner of Lincolnshire. Read Host Clare’s Blog: The Lincolnshire Wolds – A Hidden Landscape of Peace, History and Big Skies
And for October, there’s another reason we particularly like Holly Cottage…It’s one of the B&Bs in our Woodburner & Open Fire Collection. Is there anything better after an autumn walk than coming back to a cosy fire? From traditional farmhouses and country houses to characterful cottages, these are places where you can enjoy a little extra warmth and atmosphere when the evenings draw in. That’s our idea of an autumn break!
Our Dog Friendly Collection makes it simple to find B&Bs where your four-legged companion can join you, while our £100 or Less Per Night Collection is ideal if you’re looking for a comfortable stay without stretching the budget.
So whether you’re planning a few days away with the dog, a last-minute autumn escape, or simply fancy discovering somewhere new, there are plenty of welcoming places to choose from.
One of the pleasures of staying in a B&B is that your host knows the area. They can often point you towards a favourite walk, a hidden gem or somewhere good to eat.
And the next morning?
A proper breakfast, before heading out for another day of exploring!
Happy Travelling!
