February is the perfect month to slow down, wrap up warm and enjoy life’s simple pleasures — something Winnie-the-Pooh has been reminding us to do for 100 years this year!
And where better to celebrate this special anniversary than Ashdown Forest, the very place that inspired the ‘Hundred Acre Wood’? Visitors can enjoy Winnie-the-Pooh themed walks, spot familiar landmarks such as Poohsticks Bridge and follow gentle trails that bring A.A. Milne’s stories to life.
Winter in the forest is a particularly magical season — crisp air, quiet paths and wide skies that invite you to slow down and wander, just as Pooh would have done…
On the edge of this much-loved forest, in the peaceful village of Chelwood Gate, discover our ‘B&B of the Month’, Holly House — a charming 150 year old forest farmhouse, now a warm and welcoming family home.
With two friendly village pubs and beautiful woodland walks right on the doorstep, it’s an ideal setting for a cosy winter escape.
Guests can look forward to comfortable beds, a memorable breakfast served in the conservatory, overlooking a truly special garden, and a stay that feels relaxed and personal. In summer, the swimming pool adds an extra treat, and well-behaved dogs are welcome too.
Claridge House is a beautiful Victorian country house set within two acres of established woodland gardens in Lingfield, with convenient onsite parking. Ideally located close to London and Gatwick, it sits on the edge of the Surrey Hills and close to Ashdown Forest, surrounded by National Trust properties — offering a peaceful countryside retreat with excellent connections.
As a retreat centre, Claridge House is vegetarian, alcohol-free and a non-smoking environment.
A substantial continental breakfast is served daily from 8:30–9:30am, with pre-ordered packed breakfasts available for early departures.
A self-catering option is also available.
Little Tidebrook Farm, about 10 minutes from Ashdown Forest, is a converted granary set deep in the Sussex countryside, two miles from Wadhurst.
Surrounded by gardens and 40 acres of farmland to explore, it offers a peaceful B&B stay. Ideally located for visiting National Trust properties and famous gardens, with excellent restaurants nearby.
As Pooh once said, “Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart.” We think that perfectly sums up a great Bed & Breakfast stay: a peaceful night’s sleep, a welcoming fire, beautiful surroundings and a delicious breakfast to start the day!
This February, why not treat yourself to a cosy escape? Quiet countryside walks, local pubs with roaring fires and time to simply do nothing at all — or as Pooh might say, “doing nothing often leads to the very best of something.”
Our B&B and self-catering Hosts would love to welcome you for a restful February break — whether it’s a romantic getaway, a midweek pause, or just an excuse to recharge and enjoy the moment…
Happy Travelling!
