We thoroughly enjoyed the place and we’ll definitely come again.
So comfortable and conveniently located and Stephen and Liz are the kindest, most accommodating hosts.
We only stayed for 4 days on our first trip to England and were so excited to see everything around, but somehow we managed to spend a few hours in their lovely garden, just taking in the beauty of the place.
It crossed my mind that there are other places, other people, other options.
A thought that, in my delicious and complete contentment, I quickly dismissed as utterly irrelevant.
Back for our second stay, this time for five days. The same lovely place and the same charming hosts. We visited Old Sarum and climbed Salisbury Cathedral spire, both very worth doing. Then spent a very full day at the Chalk Valley History Festival. It’s only a few miles away and easily accessible by car; a week long event at the end of June with talks by several well known historians and authors. There are numerous very good re enactment groups from the time of the Wars or the Roses through to World War Two. In the arena there were demonstration firings of a Battery of Twenty Five Pounder Field Guns ( blanks only fortunately) and a no holds barred re enactment of the killing of Richard III amongst many other fine displays. If History is your passion it’s unmissable.
We were the first guests in Stephen and Liz’s new venture. They are charming and attentive hosts and made us very welcome serving a delicious and plentiful breakfast.
The Byre is a very comfortable and well appointed room with a kitchenette area equipped with kettle, coffee machine, fridge and sink. The private entrance looks out onto a patio with table and chairs. There is an open view across the lawn to the distant hills.
There is more to do and see than we managed in a three night stay. We will be returning soon.
Highly Recommended.
