As the clocks go forward, we can look forward to longer evenings and making the most of the days ahead. Whilst we often like to travel elsewhere in the world it is worth remembering the words of T.S. Elliott in the Four Quartets: ‘When the last of earth left to discover is that which was the beginning’. So why not discover the wonders on our own doorstep?!!

The inspiration of writers and artists alike, it comes as no surprise that the Lake District National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the UK’s most popular National Park, encompassing England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike, as well as deep valleys, lakes, ancient woodland and idyllic villages. It’s a great park for mountain-biking with many routes for all abilities as well as walking and watersports or for a more restful route with breath-taking views, travel on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway. Embark on a leisurely boat cruise on Lake Windermere, the largest natural lake in England, and take in the picturesque views of the surrounding mountains and forests. Explore historic sites such as Beatrix Potter’s Hill Top Farm, where the beloved author found inspiration for her timeless tales. Admire the grandeur of ancient castles and ruins, and immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of the region.

Challan Hall B&B on the southern edge of the Lake District, enjoys an idyllic location overlooking the “original” Lake Hawes Water, and is just one mile from the internationally renowned Leighton Moss RSPB Bird Sanctuary, featured in BBC TV’s Spring and Autumn Watch. Situated just 10/15 minutes from the M6 (Junctions 35/36), it’s also an ideal stopover for people travelling to and from Scotland.

New to B&B Nationwide, we are delighted to introduce Rothay Garth B&B, a beautiful Victorian Lakeland building, set in its own grounds, with glorious mountain views that will take your breath away! Nestled in the heart of Ambleside and with easy access to Lake Windermere, it’s the ideal base to discover the wonders of the Lake District.

With 15 National Parks in the UK, boasting some of the country’s most beautiful and spectacular scenery, should the opportunity arise to explore, it would no doubt be a difficult choice!  Visit National Parks for more information and ideas of places to stay.

Happy Travelling!
