This page celebrates the many National Parks this country has and gives you some ideas on where to stay. Many of our writers and poets knew how splendid they were and used their own experience of living and exploring them in many of their writings. Whilst we often like to travel elsewhere in the world it is worth remembering the words of T.S. Elliott in the Four Quartets:

‘When the last of earth left to discover is that which was the beginning’

Don’t waste time and leave it too late to find the wonders on our own doorstep. It is worth considering exploring them yourself.

Sustainable Tourism

Here in the UK we have no less than 15 National Parks each boasting their own unique beauty, how fortunate we are that these designated areas have been protected for our enjoyment and that of future generations.

Did you know UK National Parks are visited over 100 million times each year?! Sustainable tourism aims to increase the positive benefits, reduce the negative impacts and to safeguard our beautiful places.

Be a responsible Visitor:-

  • Before you travel, do your research on your destination. Knowledge of the area will enhance your experience! The National Parks all have great routes, guides and maps. Don’t rely on wi-fi or a good phone signal!
  • Leave the car behind if at all possible. Consider using public transport where appropriate. If you are travelling by car, check parking is available at your intended destination. Slow down! Travelling slower not only has less environmental impact, but make your journey part of your adventure and take in the views along the way!
  • Leave no trace! It might sound obvious but put your rubbish in a bin and if there is not one in the vicinity, take your rubbish home with you!
  • Support local businesses – Buying local products and eating local food not only boosts the local economy but involves less transportation!

Here’s to making memories! Happy travelling!
