To set the scene for the coming weeks, that great writer, Henry James, said he thought the two most beautiful words in the English language were ‘summer afternoon’…conjuring happy thoughts… a warm breeze, a family bike ride, a picnic in the park, a paddle in the sea, a summertime read, balmy evenings under the setting sun …

With many opting to holiday closer to home, (the idea of long queues or cancelled flights not sounding so appealing!), the attraction of exploring the UK is once again proving popular. If you are struggling to choose a destination, our County Guide may help! Did you know that for England the history of the Counties dates back as early as the 7th Century? It was expanded on by the Normans 400 years later, with Scotland and Wales following centuries after. Each County reflects not only a history but a local culture and identity.

Our Hosts too are a great source of knowledge about their local area! They know the scenic routes, the short cuts and those lesser known, special places worthy of a visit! As our ‘Collection’ of properties continues to grow, we’re excited to take the time to introduce two new Members this month…

Wheatleys Farm in Ashton Keynes, Wiltshire, provides luxury accommodation within the Cotswold Water Park – a stunning wetlands area of more than 140 lakes covering over 40 square miles, internationally recognised for birdwatching and wildlife. Enjoy the interesting towns of Cirencester and Tetbury and Westonbirt Arboretum nearby.

An outstanding addition to our Self-catering accommodation is Angie’s Walhalla Cottage, a 4 Star Gold, dog-friendly, cosy Cornish property, near Quoit. Catering for two people and with access to 10 acres of land to meander, it is a peaceful haven to return to. Your Host, Angie, can provide ready-made pies, quiches and lasagnes…and her cakes are a treat not to be missed!

So, wherever your destination this summer….Happy Travelling!
